TRACS International Completes Its First Small Scale Heterogeneity Project Using Unique Reservoir Modelling Technology, SBED

TRACS International, an Aberdeen headquartered international petroleum consultancy, has recently successfully completed its first small scale heterogeneity modelling project as part of a reservoir modelling study for a major UKCS Operator.

The technology SBED, is developed by Geomodeling Technology Corp and was provided to TRACS International by Second Summit Limited, the UK distributor of SBED.

The reservoir modelling project, which involved the re-build of a producing Field simulation model, involved modelling across four decades of permeability heterogeneity for a range of geological realisations. The scaling issues were solved by capturing detailed reservoir heterogeneities implicitly using effective properties derived from SBED modelling.

TRACS International Principle Geoscientist, Mark Bentley, said: "We are delighted to be working alongside Second Summit using the SBED technology. On this first project, SBED allowed the modelling team to determine effective properties for intervals of complex sedimentology, which would have been a significantly more time-consuming task with conventional modelling software. These models fed onward to simulation and forecasting and we are confident that by using SBED we have generated static models which capture permeability architecture far better than the current industry standard. Moreover, we were able to do it quickly."

Second Summit Managing Director, John Ashbridge said: "This project has demonstrated the added-value available with using SBED. Reserve estimates, reservoir performance and therefore asset values rely on accurate estimates of ultimate recovery. Without using SBED to help capture detailed reservoir character, there is a gap in the modelling toolbox. With the SBED technology TRACS have been able to bridge the 'scale gap' in its reservoir modelling projects."
