About Us: Partners

SBED Joint Industry Partnership (JIP)

In 2000, Geomodeling established an SBED research and development consortium with industry partners. The aim of the project was to develop SBED as a commercial tool for:
• modeling geological heterogeneity below the resolution of seismic data, and
• upscaling from bedding structure scale to full-field scales.

From 2002-2004, Phase II software development focused on meter-scale heterogeneity modeling of internal stratification and bounding surfaces in the genetic units. The delivered product was SBEDStudio, and includes three deep-water modules: channel-infill, channel-levee architecture and depositional lobes.

Phase III focused on three main areas: integrating Phase I (SBED) and Phase II (SBEDStudio) products with other reservoir modeling software, researching methods for conditioning data to bedding structure and infill architecture modules, plus developing additional upscaling functions.

Advancements in Phase III included the addition of multi-phase upscaling which is the first of its kind in the industry.

Currently SBED JIP is in Phase IV with the following objectives:
1) to develop workflow solutions to include the effects of small-scale heterogeneity in full-field reservoir models,
2) to model sub-seismic heterogeneity in the reservoir,
3) to integrate SBED and SBEDStudio into resistivity forward modeling and well test simulation technologies.

Thank you to the SBED JIP partners for their support and expertise. Our partners have helped make SBED the new standard in geological modeling tools.
